Friends flying into Birmingham
Coleshill sits between Birmingham Airport and the NEC — about 10 minutes from BHX and about 7 minutes from the venue. Useful if you are organising your own trip from overseas.
Springfield House is a Georgian townhouse with stairs and no lift. It suits guests who can manage stairs. Compare rooms before you book. Local volunteers and anyone whose only session is swimming at Sandwell are better staying closer to those plans.
Where the Invictus Games take place
Almost the whole Games is at the NEC Birmingham, B40 1NT: the opening ceremony on Saturday 10 July, the festival, and the closing party on Saturday 17 July. Swimming is the exception, at Sandwell Aquatics Centre in Smethwick.
At the NEC
Archery, athletics, cycling, indoor rowing, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby, and the three new sports — esports, laser run and pickleball. Spectators can use either main entrance. The north-east entrance is the one closest to the car parks, which is the natural arrival if you are driving from Coleshill.
Swimming at Sandwell
Sandwell Aquatics Centre is in Smethwick, a longer drive across Birmingham from Coleshill. Stay here if the NEC is your base and swimming is one session among others. If you are only going to the pool, a hotel nearer Smethwick will be easier.
